Castle Rheinstein

Over the weekend we took a nice little q uick drive up the Rhein River. Along the Rhein are several vineyards and very cute towns. We also discovered that within an hour drive, there are several castles to visit. We stopped at the Rheinstein Castle and walked around a bit. It was a gorgeous day to see the views from the top! Addy really enjoyed it too, especially since the inside had a "princess wing". The castle was built roughly 1100 years ago on a rock cliff rising 270 feet. During a short period of time, it was home of the Holy Roman Emperor. Parts of it were destroyed in the late 1700's, and it has since been re-furbished by a local family who owns it.

It was hard to get a full view of the castle because it was RIGHT on the road that parallels the Rhein. Next time when we're on the other side of the River, we'll get a good shot! This picture was take from the restaurant inside:
